Did they know he was crazy?
An update on the shooting of the bipolar patient Rigoberto Alpizar at the Miami Airport:This report from the Washington Post seems to suggest that federal air marshalls were informed by Alpizar's wife that he was mentally ill. Nevertheless, given the climate these days, maybe the issue that needs to be addressed at this point isn't the fact that a mentally ill person was shot but that we still have this hair-trigger fear-mentality at the airport, four years after 9/11. When is the paranoia going to end?

Would you prefer that he, say, was ill enough to believe he needed to make a bomb, did so and actually killed people? Would you be happier if he had a real bomb and they let him blow it up?
I can't believe you people are blaming the police here.
He claimed he had a bomb. He reached into his bag. End of negotiations. There are OTHER PEOPLE TO PROTECT...not the man who says he has a bomb.
